MAN RETURNS TO WORK 12 YEARS AFTER SERIOUS ACCIDENT

SUPERVISOR CANNOT WALK OR TALK, BUT IS SET FOR NEW ROLE MODERATING ONLINE FORUMS

An Aberdeen man left disabled after he was knocked down by a car has returned to work more than a decade after his accident.

Karl McLennan joined information technology company Prosource.it as an IT support supervisor in 1997.

Later that year, the 37-year-old was hit by a car while crossing Great Northern Road, Aberdeen, putting him in a coma for five weeks.

His injuries left him severely disabled and, although he is not paralysed, he can no longer walk. He is also now unable to talk, and relies on a Lightwriter machine to communicate with others.

Mr McLennan has not worked since the accident but before Christmas he asked his former colleagues at the Aberdeen-based IT firm if he could return in some capacity.

Yesterday, he was presented with a new laptop to mark his return to the company, where he will now moderate forums on the website. Friend and colleague Craig Adams, workforce director of Prosource.it, said: “It’s almost unbelievable. I never expected to see this, but we are all delighted Karl is back after 12 long years.”

WELCOME BACK: Karl McLennan, left, with his new laptop and Prosource.it workforce director Craig Adam .
